President orders to strengthen activity of diaspora organizations

President Ilham Aliyev signed an executive order on June 2 to strengthen the activity of the country’s diaspora organizations.

Under the presidential order, 3 million manats ($ 2.08 million) were allocated to the State Committee on Work with Diaspora from the 2016 Contingency Fund of the President.

Main objective of the funding is strengthening of Azerbaijan Diaspora Organizations with the view of more efficient use of Diaspora potential under the current conditions and propaganda of rich and ancient historical and cultural heritage of the country.

Being a governmental agency within the Cabinet of Ministers, the State Committee for work with Diaspora is in charge of establishing and maintaining contacts with the Azerbaijani Diaspora abroad as well as support the Azerbaijanis around the world in their efforts for national unity.

There are approximately 150 public, national and cultural societies and organizations working in more than 30 countries to promote Azerbaijan.

The State Committee for work with Diaspora was established on the basis of the State Committee for Work with Azerbaijanis Living Abroad on November 19, 2008.

The Finance Ministry and the Cabinet Ministers have been instructed to handle issues relating to the order.
