Moscow wants Azerbaijan to be strong, stable, reliable

Russia supports Azerbaijan in the current international situation, Russian ambassador to Baku Vladimir Dorokhin said during the event at Republican Organization of Veterans of War, Labor and Armed Forces on September 22.

“We are with you and we support you,” he said. “We want Azerbaijan to be strong, stable and predictable.”

Dorokhin added that Azerbaijan isn’t afraid of being itself and speaks as a genuine sovereign state.

Noting that Azerbaijan goes on its own way, he wished the country to continue this in the future as well.

He also said that Russia wants its southern neighbor to remain reliable.

Azerbaijan and Russia currently have strong economic relations. The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia stood at $1.1 billion in Jan.-July 2015, or 1.85 percent more than in the same period of 2014, according to Azerbaijani State Customs Committee.

The import from Russia to Azerbaijan has increased by 24.5 percent in a year and totaled $868.79 million.

To date, Russia has invested over $1.8 billion in Azerbaijan’s economy, while the volume of investments made by Azerbaijan in this country’s economy exceeds $1 billion.

Over 600 companies with Russian share operate in Azerbaijan. Gazprom, LUKOIL, KAMAZ and VTB Bank are among the large Russian producers and companies operating in Azerbaijan.
