Armenia keeps high tension on contact line
Armenian armed forces have broken the ceasefire with Azerbaijan 97 times in various parts of the contact line between Azerbaijani and Armenian armies in the last 24 hours, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported on September 14.
Azerbaijani positions underwent fire from the positions located near the villages of Tapgaragoyunlu, Gulustan of Goranboy district, Chileburt, Gizil Oba, Goyarkh, Chayli of Terter, Novruzlu, Sarijali, Kengerli, Yusifjanli, Shikhlar, Merzili, Javahirli, Nemirli, Bash Gervend of Aghdam district, Kuropatkino of Khojavend, Horadiz, Garakhanbeyli, Ashagi Abdurrahmanli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Gorgan of Fizuli and Mehdili of Jabrayil district.
Another ceasefire violation came from the positions located on the nameless heights of Goygol, Goranboy, Khojavend and Fizuli districts.
Azerbaijani armed forces carried out 118 strikes on enemy positions.
Armenia and Azerbaijan fought a lengthy war that ended with the signing of a fragile ceasefire in 1994. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and over one million were displaced as a result of the large-scale hostilities. Since the war, the Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding regions.
Peace talks brokered by mediators from Russia, France, and the U.S. have produced no results so far. Armenia continues the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and unconditional withdrawal.
