President Aliyev reviews State Border Service’s new border patrol ship

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has reviewed a newly-constructed second degree border guard ship at the Shipyard and Repair Center of the Coast Guard of the State Border Service.

Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev, the chairman of the State Border Service-commander of the Border Troops, reported to Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Aliyev, AzerTac state news agency reported.

The head of state watched a film about the activity of the border guard ships of the Coast Guard and viewed a stand reflecting the vessels` technical parameters.

President Aliyev was informed that six border guard vessels with state-of-the-art navigation, communication and weapons systems have been constructed by the center since its establishment.

The president also reviewed the second degree border guard ship, and watched third degree vessels sail in the center.

He then toured the center, and gave his recommendations and instructions.

Today, the Azerbaijani border service conducts operations in accordance with the requirements of new challenges of the modern era and is capable of resolving security issues at the highest level.

The history of the national border service in Azerbaijan dates back to 1918. The Poylu border post was created for the first time in Azerbaijan on June 22, 1918.

Azerbaijan has a 765 km border with Iran and 15 km with Turkey in the southwest, 390 km with Russia in the north, 480 km with Georgia in the northwest and 1007 km with Armenia in the west.
