Baku, Riga mull bilateral ties

Azerbaijani and Latvian presidents have discussed the development of bilateral ties between the two countries.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev met with President-elect of Latvia Raimonds Vejonis on June 22, AzerTag state news agency reported.

President Aliyev congratulated Vejonis on the occasion of his election as the Latvian president and wished him successes in his high state activities.

He expressed confidence that the bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia would further develop.

President Vejonis, for his part, highlighted the good level of Azerbaijani-Latvian cooperation, saying there were great opportunities for expanding the ties between the two countries` businessmen, various ministries and bodies.

Azerbaijan-Latvia relations are developing yearly and reciprocal visits play a huge role in taking bilateral relations forward. There is a legal framework of Azerbaijan-Latvia relations. The two countries have so far signed about 30 documents with several other ones pending to get signed.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Latvia is near to $10 million. The main goods exported from Latvia to Azerbaijan consist of animals, metal, food, and chemical products. Mineral and food products are mainly imported from Azerbaijan.
