Baku not intends to change foreign policy, top official says

The campaign to discredit Azerbaijan on the eve of the First European Games is a shameful process in the modern international relations system, while in reality, they should be open and transparent, an Azerbaijani top official said on May 7.
“It does not do credit to those who carry out such a campaign against Azerbaijan, the country which is developing rapidly, moving forward on the path of democracy and is turning into a regional leader,” said Novruz Mammadov, the deputy head of Azerbaijani Presidential Administration, chief of the administration’s foreign relations department.
“We rely on our people, on ourselves, because the people understand the essence of these processes,” he said.
“They won’t achieve anything by taking such steps in respect to Azerbaijan. I suppose that it is one of those utmost steps taken in the world to fulfill the geopolitical interests.”
Mammadov added that Azerbaijan has an independent foreign policy in accordance with which it builds cooperation with all countries and declines any other options with this regard.
