Azerbaijan, land of religious tolerance

No one in Azerbaijan is oppressed for his/her religious belief, said Mubariz Gurbanli, Head of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations.

Addressing a conference titled "National and Moral Values and Modernity" in Azeryolservice CJSC in Baku on December 26, he said: "Azerbaijan can be an example for the whole world in terms of the religious tolerance."

He noted that the newly-built mosque named after national leader Heydar Aliyev in Baku's Binagadi district is unique for its design and architecture among the mosques that have been built in the Muslim countries in recent years.

Gurban Nazarov, First Deputy Head of the Azeryolservice CJSC, said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to save the national and moral, as well as the Islamic values.

Nazarov also touched upon the works carried out in the railway system of Azerbaijan, saying: "President Ilham Aliyev attaches regular attention to the development of railway system.”

Gurbanli earlier said Azerbaijan was not facing any serious interfaith and interethnic problems due to the safe religious environment in the country.

He also rejected as baseless reports about lack of enough number of mosques in Azerbaijan.

A religious turmoil in Azerbaijan is not likely since the government strictly regulates religious issues. The ethnic and religious diversities of the country are referred to as a national wealth alongside the other national values.
