Legendary leader Heydar Aliyev regarded the national achievements in scientific and intellectual spheres as important goals of the country and a reliable guarantee of state building in Azerbaijan, said Elchin Babayev, Executive Director of the Science Development Foundation under Azerbaijani president.

“He took important steps aimed at developing the scientific and education system of the country based on advanced principles,” Babayev stressed.

He said Heydar Aliyev paid great attention to the development of science and education in the country. Primarily, he thought about the intellectual future of the people. He always relied on new developments in science.

“Heydar Aliyev appreciated the scientists. It was because the national leader himself had a scientific mindset. He always relied on the scientific principles as well as intellectual capacities,” Babayev said.

Scientific development and improvement of national education system through applying advanced innovations were among the main goals of Heydar Aliyev’s governing.

“Being a professional strategist, the great national leader said that creating an intellectual base is one of the main pillars of each country paving the way for its independence. Heydar Aliyev’s policy was formed on scientific principles and intellectual capacities,” Babayev noted.

He underlined that today President Ilham Aliyev successfully follows Heydar Aliyev’s policy in the field of science and education.

Heydar Aliyev, who devoted his life to prosperity and well-being of his nation, holds a special place in the history of Azerbaijan.

He participated in the most complex and contradictory historical processes in the world without losing his self-control in difficult situations, appraising geopolitical changes that could dramatically affect people.

Considered as the greatest Azerbaijani politician, he was awarded a number of state orders and medals and international awards. He was elected as honorable doctor in different universities including the Lenin Order - four times - and the Order of Red Star. He received orders and medals from foreign countries and received a rank of the Hero of the Socialistic Labor twice.
