Former cops nabbed over robberies
A group of former police officers responsible for committing armed
robberies in the past ten years has been seized in Baku, law
enforcement agencies said.
Three former policemen were detained as suspects. A TT handgun was impounded from them during the operation, the National Security Ministry and Prosecutor General`s Office said in a joint statement on Wednesday.
The detainees admitted in their testimony that they had committed over 20 armed robberies throughout the capital since 1998 and appropriated large quantities of money from currency exchanges by intimidating their employees.
These grave crimes have raised public uproar. The fact that these persons remained at large for a long time had created pre-conditions for the commission of similar crimes in the future and worsened the situation with crime in the country.
