By Aynur Jafarova
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the first part of Gala-Pirallahi highway after reconstruction on October 14.
The head of state cut the ribbon symbolizing the official opening of the highway. Azerbaijan's Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov informed the president about the works carried out to accomplish the project.
The road, which was redeveloped under the Plan of Action for the execution of the 2014-2016 State Program on the socio-economic development of Baku and its suburbs, is nearly 22 kilometers in length.
A nearly 15-kilometer long section of the road is ready for use. The high-quality construction work was carried out at the four-lane facility. The road was previously too narrow, which hindered traffic. It was widened to 19 meters ensuring easy and unhindered movement of vehicles.
This project is primarily aimed at ensuring transport communication in the direction of the city centre and Gala and Pirallahi. The road junctions and pedestrian crossings were built and green areas laid out along the road. All communication systems, including water, heating, gas and drainage lines were also changed.
The construction of this state-of-the-art road junction once again proves that continuous work is being carried out to tackle traffic congestion in the capital.
Later, President Aliyev arrived in Pirallahi district and head of the district's Executive Authority Vasif Imanov informed him about the works done in Pirallahi to accomplish the district's master plan.
The newly established Pirallahi district is experiencing rapid development. After President Aliyev signed an executive order to apply the law on the establishment of Pirallahi district in Baku, immense reconstruction and development work has been carried out in the district.
As part of the visit, President Aliyev reviewed the progress of the construction project of a bridge, which will link Pirallahi Island with the Absheron peninsula.
The construction of the bridge began at the end of 2012. The shore reinforcement work was carried out in order to prevent the washing away of a highway, which links Pirallahi district with the shore, speed up the construction of a highway bridge, and improve the environment in the area of the road. Some 60 percent of the work on the project has already been completed.
The bridge is located on the 23rd kilometer of the Gala-Pirallahi highway. The length of the bridge is 710 meters, the width is 14 meters, while each lane is 12 meters in width. After the opening of the bridge, ships will freely sail under the facility.
President Aliyev gave instructions and recommendations on the completion of the construction work at a high level.
Then the head of state reviewed the conceptual plan of a new city in Pirallahi district. Under the development project, the new city will be built in Gurgan Seashore and surrounding areas.
A large state-of-the-art residential area will also be established here to accommodate 120,000 people at the initial stage. The city will also have administrative buildings, many-storied houses, trade centers, recreation areas and parks linking the city with the sea.
In accordance with the project, the initial stage will see the construction of 60 residential buildings with most of them being in the form of four-storey terraces. A university complex, a fishing platform will be built, and an industrial area established in the new city.
Later, President Aliyev reviewed landscaping and construction work in Pirallahi settlement. Work has started to redevelop residential buildings along the central avenue in the settlement. This includes renovation of facades of the buildings, repair of entrance doors and roofs.
Small and half-built facilities which do not meet urban planning and construction standards are pulled down and the areas are landscaped.
Bazaar, trade centers and filling stations will be built in Pirallahi settlement to ensure comfort of local residents. This will positively impact the employment issue among other measures.
