Take care of your heart is the main slogan of a march-marathon called "Health procession!", which will be held in Baku on September 27.

The marathon dedicated to the fight against heart disease will take place in the Boulevard at 10:00. The traditional marathon is aimed to promote healthy mode of life, as cardiovascular diseases occupy the first place among the socially significant diseases in Azerbaijan.

The passive lifestyle, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity and smoking are regarded as the major risk factors behind heart diseases.

Every year this terrible disease takes over 17.3 million lives worldwide.

Heart attacks and strokes are the leading causes of death, which are mainly caused by a blockage that prevents blood from flowing to the heart or brain.

"About 500-700 people are expected to join the procession. Organized by the Health Ministry the event will bring together many famous Azerbaijani professionals in the field of cardiovascular surgery," Spokesman of the Health Ministry Anar Gadirli said.

The winners of the competition will be awarded with prizes by the Ministry of Health.

September 29 was announced as the World Heart Day in 2000 on the initiative of the WHO and the World Heart Federation to inform people around the globe that the heart disease and stroke are the world's leading causes of death.

This killing disease is so dangerous that in the case of prophylaxis absence the number of deaths from cardiovascular disease will reach 24 million by 2030, the professionals say.

Cardiovascular diseases is among the main deadly diseases in Azerbaijan.

A very complex operation transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) was held in Azerbaijan recently.

The risky operation was successfully carried out on a 79 year old women by Azerbaijani doctors for the first time in the history of national medicine.

The doctors say this method is most effective in the treatment of elderly patients, exposed to a serious risk, as the treatment of diseases through the open (classical) operations is highly perilous.

Celebrating the World Heart Day take responsibility for the health of your heart and the hearts of your loved ones. Make your home a place where healthy food is available, tobacco is not allowed and where physical activity encourages to reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.
