Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met Belarusian First Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Mihnevich to discuss current state of political relations on June 19.

Mammadyarov and Mihnevich discussed how to develop economic, trade and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.

Moreover, Mihnevich met Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov. During the meeting, Khalafov emphasized the importance of consultations between the foreign ministries of two countries and praised the current state of the bilateral relations.

He also stressed the necessity of strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and Belarus in the economic, humanitarian, educational and cultural fields, as well as within international organizations.

Khalafov said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the development of regional relations and stressed the importance of development of bilateral and multilateral dialogues in this area.

Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijani deputy foreign minister said the problem still remains unresolved as Armenia does not put an end to its aggressive policy in the region and avoids withdrawing its forces from Azerbaijani lands.

Mihnevich, in turn, hailed the dynamic development of relations between the two countries and the level of cooperation within international organizations, stressing the importance of boosting regional cooperation.

Azerbaijan and Belarus established diplomatic relations in 1993. Belarus is interested in increasing the capacity of Belarusian assembly plants operating in Azerbaijan, as well as implementation of new projects in construction, education, health, science and cultural fields.

The cooperation agreements signed between the justice ministries of the two countries in 1999 and 2012 during the Azerbaijani president's visits to Belarus made a considerable contribution to the expansion of mutual relations.
