Armenia threatens regional stability:Defense Minister
By Sara Rajabova
Azerbaijan and Turkey's cooperation was discussed during a meeting between Azerbaijani Defense Minister and Turkish Land Forces Commander who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan.
Zakir Hasanov said cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkey was established on friendship and brotherhood, and this relationship is constantly evolving.
Referring to the military-political situation in the region, Hasanov noted that Armenia threatens regional stability.
He stressed the importance of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in accordance with international law and the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.
Armenia occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, after laying territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor that had caused a lengthy war in the early 1990s.
The UN Security Council has adopted four resolutions on Armenia's withdrawal from the Azerbaijani territory, but they have not been enforced to this day.
General Hulusi Akar, in turn, said the relations between the two countries have an ancient history and Turkey is an important partner of Azerbaijan.
The sides also exchanged views on bilateral military relations and other regional security issues of mutual interest.
Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismayil Alper Coskun also attended the meeting.
