Azerbaijan to popularize national culture

Azerbaijan plans to adopt a number of laws on national culture popularization.

A plan of legislative work of the Cultural Committee of the Azerbaijan Parliament for the spring session was previously approved, committee chairman Nizami Jafarov said on February 7.

The session will discuss the bills on creative individuals and creative unions, protection and development of the Azerbaijani art of mugham, culinary culture, as well as protection and development of ashug art in the country.

Speaking at a meeting of the culture committee, Jafarov said the law on protection and promotion of the national cuisine is currently being prepared and will reflect such issues as promotion of national culinary in the world, national cuisine registration, protection and popularization, as well as problems of public caterings, and food supply.

"Moreover, work on a new bill on cinematography is also in progress. The law is supposed to be a completely new document in content and coverage," Jafarov said.

"Currently Azerbaijani government pays great attention to shooting films and TV series, and funds are allocated for this purpose," he added, noting that the new bill will reflect such issues as the shooting of films and serials, funding, and personnel training.

MP Rafael Huseynov, in turn , said that works on a new draft law on the written monuments, which will provide protection of written heritage and stone monuments, are currently underway in Azerbaijan.

He further said this also includes political issues.

Protection, promotion of Azerbaijani heritage in the world is essential and this requires a legal framework, he concluded.
