Foreign Ministry faces difficulty to control fellow citizens’ actions in Syria

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry is considering the issue related to the country's citizens engagement in the armed conflict in Syria, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov told journalists on February 4.
"After the situation strained in Syria, the Azerbaijani embassy moved to Lebanon. Therefore, it is difficult for us to control the actions of fellow citizens in Syria. We are closely monitoring the situation, and certainly do not want Azerbaijani citizens were killed in the conflict," Mammadyarov said.
Several Azerbaijanis recently were killed in an armed conflict in Syria, according to media reports.
The initiating of criminal proceedings against the citizens of the country, fighting in Syria was recently offered at the Parliament of Azerbaijan.
