Azerbaijan gears up for fighting corruption

Azerbaijan is gearing up for fighting corruption across the country by adopting various preventive measures.

Azerbaijan's Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov made the statement at a meeting to review the performance of the prosecutor bodies during 2013.

"In last year, the efforts of prosecutor bodies were aimed at fulfilling the obligations set by presidential decrees, improvement of work efficiency, immediate elimination of existing shortcomings and negative trends," Prosecutor General said.

Garalov added that as a result of the wise policies pursued by President Ilham Aliyev, significant successes was achieved in all sections of the country, the country's statehood was strengthened and the power of the republic was increased.

He went on to note that the Prosecutor's Office together with other law enforcement agencies, primarily the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of National Security implemented the necessary measures aimed at maintaining political stability and tranquility in the country, strengthening the fight against crime and protecting the independence of the state as well as the rights and freedom of citizens.

The meeting ended up with giving concrete instructions for more determined and systematic fight against corruption by prosecutor bodies and other law enforcement agencies in 2014.

Azerbaijan has begun using successful models of fighting corruption by commissioning ASAN Service (the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of Azerbaijan). This system which has won fame for Azerbaijan can be considered as one of the most effective ways to combat corruption. Many foreign countries are interested in it and want to use Azerbaijan's experience.
