Armenians breach ceasefire, shoot Azerbaijani soldier

By Sara Rajabova

The Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported that the Armenian Armed Forces again violated the ceasefire with Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijani soldier was wounded as a result.

Subunits of the Armenian Armed Forces shattered ceasefire with the Azerbaijani armed forces in Alibeyli village of the Tovuz region from the positions located in the village of Aygepar of Armenia's Berd region last night.

The Armenians were silenced with a retail fire, the ministry said.

Nineteen year old soldier Tapdig Ahadli was wounded as a result of ceasefire violation in the direction of the Tovuz region.

Ahadli was drafted into military service by the Ujar Region Department of the State Mobilization and Conscription Service in October 2013.

Armenia captured Nagorno-Karabakh and seven surrounding districts from Azerbaijan in a war that followed the Soviet breakup in 1991. More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed, and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.

Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in 1994, but Armenia has continued the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions calling for an immediate and unconditional withdrawal.

Peace talks mediated by Russia, France and the US have produced no results so far.
