Heydar Aliyev Foundation builds sports ground in India
By Nigar Orujova
A sports ground was built and commissioned in the Goa State of India at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation.
Education centers in Goa are located in the cities of Panjim, Margao, Mapusa, and Vasco. Absence of a public transport between the surrounding villages and the cities causes difficulties for children who go to school.
In order to solve this problem, "Pilar" Catholic Society has built 10 schools, a Catholic college, and an orphanage in the neighborhood. Thousands of children are studying at these schools at present.
Representative of the "Pilar" Society Teodor Maskarena noted that the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was the only organization which responded to their request for help, and a stadium was built in 18 months.
Following the initiative of the foundation which had provided disinterested support to these schools built for charity purposes, a sports ground was also built for children.
The inauguration ceremony of the "Father Agnelo" stadium was attended by Azerbaijan Ambassador to India Ibrahim Hajiyev and representatives of the Foundation.
Speaking at the event, Hajiyev said the two countries have deep-rooted historical ties, and described the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's initiative as another contribution to strengthening friendly relations between Azerbaijan and India.
He said the initiative of Azerbaijan's First Lady and President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva would upgrade the existing ties to a higher level.
Following the official opening ceremony, the first football match in the new stadium was held between "Pilar" orphanage and the Goa State team. The orphanage children played in the friendly match under the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's flag.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation is also active in Pakistan, where it has built a new modern school for girls, and has held healthcare, education, and humanitarian projects in different provinces of the country.
