Azerbaijani people to make worthy choice in presidential elections - official

The Azerbaijani people will make a worthy choice at the presidential elections and elect the candidate who will ensure successful future of Azerbaijan and meet their expectations, head of the Presidential Administration's Political Analysis and Information Provision Department Elnur Aslanov said on August 30.

Speaking at the XI Summer forum of Azerbaijani Students and Alumni International Forum (ASAIF) in Baku, the department head also said that independent Azerbaijan, which adopted democratic values in a very short time, has accumulated great experience in conducting free and fair elections.

"The analysis of previous elections once again shows that the Azerbaijani democracy has matured and turned to a kind of lighthouse showing the way to development and progress. Democracy is a product of historical development. The implementation of all political reforms in parallel with the economic ones was Azerbaijan's success," Aslanov stressed.

The presidential elections in Azerbaijan will be held on October 9.

According to the Constitution, the president of Azerbaijan is elected for a five-year term through general, direct and equal elections, by free, private and secret voting.

Azerbaijani citizens who have the right of election, an initiative group of electors, political parties and blocs of political parties are entitled to nominating candidates.

The XI Summer forum of the ASAIF is being held in Baku on August 30-31.

The aim of the ASAIF forum which will be attended by 600 Azerbaijani youth from 45 countries is to strengthen networking of young people studying abroad and assist them in increasing the world community`s awareness of the Azerbaijani truths.

Another aim of the forum is to popularize the realities on Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh realities in foreign countries.
