Russia's VIM Airlines Company will launch direct flights from the Russian city St. Petersburg to the Azerbaijani city Gabala.

Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) said the first flight from St. Petersburg to Gabala will be performed on August 22. The plane will land at the Gabala airport at 12.00. On the same day the aircraft will make a return flight on the same route.

This will be the third international flight from the Gabala airport, which also implements direct flights to Moscow.

Recall that AZAL launched the Baku-Beijing and Beijing-Baku direct flights on August 9, which will be carried out twice a week - on Tuesdays and Fridays - on board Airbus А-340 and Boeing 767 aircraft. The flight schedule will be as follows (in local time): Baku-Beijing: Tuesdays and Fridays; departure at 15:15, arrival at 1:15 + (the next day), Beijing-Baku: Wednesdays and Saturdays; departure at 05:45 and arrival at 10:45.

AZAL, the biggest Azerbaijani airline and national flag carrier, offers passenger flights to countries in Europe, the CIS, Middle East and Asia. After purchasing new Boeing aircraft for long-haul flights in 2014, the airline plans to open regular flights to destinations in North America and South-East Asia. It cooperates with about 60 airlines to provide its passengers with the opportunity to travel freely around the world.

VIM Airlines, one of the largest Russian airlines, continues to hold a leading position among Russian airlines by number of carried passengers. In 2012, VIM Airlines carried out 8,909 flights and transported 1,554,339 passengers together with the Air Bashkortostan.
