Romanian envoy appalled by Armenians` targeting civilians
Romanian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Nikolae Ureche has said after a
visit to the frontline regions that he was appalled by Armenians`
keeping civilians on target.
The envoy has visited the Tovuz district`s borderline villages of Alibayli, Aghdam and Hajally.
Ureche, who witnessed firsthand the situation in the frontline regions, said it was considerably different from the descriptions in the media and on TV. He said such instances are unbelievable in the 21st century, calling for more vigorous efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution of the Upper (Nagorno) Garabagh conflict.
"Romania supports a peaceful settlement to the Garabagh conflict. The dispute must be resolved strictly in line with the norms of international law," the diplomat said.
Ureche visited the Tovuz district on Monday. The visit also aimed to become familiar with the district`s economic potential. The ambassador is expected to provide comprehensive information about his observations to the Romanian government.
Tovuz shares an over 70 km border with Armenia and many of its villages are located on the contact line of the Azeri and Armenian troops.*
