Georgian interior minister cites importance of coop with Azerbaijan

By Nazrin Gadimova

Cooperation between the law enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan and Georgia is very important, Georgian Interior Minister Irakli Garibashvili said after a meeting with Azerbaijani Minister of Emergency Situations Kamaladdin Heydarov on August 1.

"There is full understanding between us, which is now registered at the level of the intergovernmental agreement," Garibashvili said.

Georgia and Azerbaijan have signed an agreement on cooperation between the two governments in eliminating the consequences of emergencies. The document has been signed in the Georgian capital Tbilisi by Irakli Garibashvili and Col.-Gen. Kamaladdin Heydarov during his two-day visit to Georgia.

According to Garibashvili, Azerbaijan has assisted Georgia on the issue of emergencies management and bilateral cooperation has now reached a new level.

In turn Heydarov emphasized that Georgia and Azerbaijan are cooperating very well even without an agreement.

"We are neighbors and will assist each other during emergencies with no document, but this agreement allows us to plan our relations in this area for the long term," Heydarov said.
