Over 1m Baku residents unregistered - research
Over a million people living in Baku are unregistered, a local
non-governmental organization dealing with migration issues
says.
"Some of these people are citizens coming to the capital from the regions to look for work, while others are foreigners who live and work in Baku without registration," said director of the Center for Legal Assistance to Migrants, Alovsat Aliyev.
The unregistered people include those ousted from their homes as a result of the armed conflict with Armenia, those whose registration was canceled in the court of law as well as people who still hold Soviet passports.
Aliyev said none of the persons who come from the regions and rent dwelling space in Baku applies for registration.
The center director added that some of the unregistered people residing in the capital - over 50,000 - are Azerbaijanis who came from neighboring Georgia.
