Brazil to pass resolution on Karabakh conflict
The parliament of Brazil will adopt a resolution on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict supporting the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, the chairman of the Committee on Foreign Relations and National Defense of the Parliament of Brazil Nelson Pellegrino said on May 30 during a meeting with the delegation headed by the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights Rabiyyat Aslanova in Baku.
According to him, the adoption of the resolution was also discussed during a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, when the decision was made about the imminent adoption of the resolution.
The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian armed forces have occupied 20 per cent of Azerbaijan since 1992, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.
Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.
Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
