Turkey to host meeting of Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation with Azerbaijan

A meeting of the Supreme Council for Strategic Cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan will be held this year in Turkey, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ismayil Alper Coskun said.

According to him, date of the meeting is specified currently.

On the topic of recognition of the so-called "Armenian genocide" as well as initiative to formal apology, the ambassador stressed that "the recognition of the initiative raised to the political level, can be no question."

"As you know, they prefer to put pressure on the international community through its overseas diaspora. Initiative of one of the parties can only be seen in this light. Turkish society is open and democratic. We will not let the Turkic world to be tarnished, but Anatolia events can and should be discussed. However, this debate can only go between historians," Coskun said.

According to him, Turkey is grateful to Azerbaijan for support in this matter. "Baku and Ankara will always cooperate on important topics for the two countries," he said.
