Azerbaijan always paid great attention to Middle East – official
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov will discuss strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and the Middle East during his upcoming visit to the Middle East on April 21, Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told media today.
"As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, Azerbaijan is observing the events in the Middle East. It has always paid great attention to this region. The minister plans to meet with some officials in Tel Aviv and Ramallah," Abdullayev said.
He added that Baku always focused on the issues of support for the Palestinian people.
"Our position on this issue remains unchanged. We support Palestine in all international organizations," Abdullayev said.
He went on saying that no bilateral agreements are planned to be signed during the minister's visit. In addition, there is no decision on the opening of an Azerbaijani Embassy in Tel Aviv or Ramallah, Abdullayev said.
The Ministry earlier informed that the delegation led by Mammadyarov will visit the region on April 21-23, where he will hold meetings with senior leaders of Israel and Palestine.
The Azerbaijani side will discuss a peace process in the Middle East, as well as the opportunities of expanding bilateral relations, and cooperation within the international organisations, economic, trade and cultural relations with Palestine and Israel.
