The poll was conducted jointly by the media watchdog Press Council and local International Eurasia Press Fund (IEPF) to research the socio-economic needs of journalists in the country. Only 13.4 per cent of respondents said local media was in sound financial condition, while 37.6 per cent said it was poor, and 34.4 per cent said it was average.
The poll also revealed that one of the media employees' pressing problems is the lack of apartments. 76.2 per cent of those polled said they were discontent with their housing conditions. 93 per cent of the Azerbaijani journalists have no insurance, according to the survey.
70.2 per cent of those polled said they have not been able to benefit from loans so far. Media workers bind great hopes with concessional and long-term credits allocated by the state, with 78.1 per cent of them saying they would take the opportunity if it presents itself.
