Azerbaijani delegation holds several meetings in California

An Azerbaijani delegation led by chairman of parliament`s committee on foreign relations and interparliamentary ties, Samad Seyidov, has held several meetings in California with top officials of the state`s legislative and executive bodies.

The delegation included parliamentarians Asim Mollazade, Sevinj Fataliyeva and Sahibe Qafarova, vice-president of SOCAR Khalik Mammadov and Azerbaijan`s consul general in Los-Angeles Nasimi Agayev.

First the Azerbaijani delegation met President of Californian Senate Tem Darrell Steinberg.

The Senate President praised the fact that Azerbaijan was one of the most reliable allies of the United States in a sensitive region. He said Azerbaijan`s economy was developing dynamically. Steinberg also underscored the importance of strengthening Azerbaijan-California relationship.

Seyidov said Azerbaijan-U.S. strategic partnership relations serve interests of both countries` peoples. He noted cooperation between Azerbaijani parliament and Californian Senate, as well as reciprocal visits contribute to development of bilateral relationship.

The Azerbaijani delegation also met Bob Huff, the California State Senate Republican leader. The discussions focused on expansion of interparliamentary ties between Azerbaijan and California. Bob Huff said his visit to Azerbaijan in 2011 made deep impressions on him.

Another meeting that the Azerbaijani delegation held was with Connie Conway, California State Assembly`s Republican leader.

They exchanged views on the accomplishments gained in Azerbaijan in various spheres, traditions of ethnic and religious tolerance in the country, Azerbaijan-US relationship.

Conway hailed the fact that Azerbaijan was a close friend and ally of the United States.
As part of the visit the Azerbaijani delegation also met Sandra Schubert, undersecretary of the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

The talks focused on agricultural reforms in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan-US economic relations, opportunities on exchange of experience in the field of agriculture.

The Azerbaijani delegation also met with Jorge Jaramillo, deputy director of external affairs at the Office of Business and Economic Development.

They exchanged views on Azerbaijan`s economic development, increasing investment opportunities, major investment projects, cooperation with US companies such as Boeing and Orbital Sciences Corporation, as well as prospects for expansion of economic ties.
