The current state and prospects for the relations between China and Azerbaijan, including interparliamentary cooperation, were in focus during the talks held in China on Tuesday.
China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin, who serves as Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met with an Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Parliamentary Speaker Ziyafat Asgarov. In his remarks, Jia Qinglin said China and Azerbaijan have seen stable development of their bilateral relations since forging diplomatic ties in 1992.
"The two countries have deepened mutual trust, boosted people-to-people exchanges and maintained communication and coordination in the UN and other multilateral organizations," Jia said.
Jia noted that China values its relations with Azerbaijan and was looking to work with the country to boost bilateral relations, and said the CPPCC National Committee would like to promote exchanges and cooperation with the Azerbaijani parliament and play a role in both developing bilateral relations and deepening understanding between the sides.
Asgarov, for his part, said he admires China's economic and social progress and appreciates China's long-term support for Azerbaijan.
"Azerbaijan values its ties with China and would like to work with the country to expand bilateral relations," he said.
Asgarov also underscored the Azerbaijani parliament's commitment to developing bilateral ties.
During its visit, the Azerbaijani delegation, which includes MPs Siyavush Novruzov, Rauf Aliyev, Aliaga Huseynov and Ali Masimli, will also visit Shaanxi province and Shanghai city of China.
