Baku Metro to open new stations in 2014

Baku Metro plans to commission two new stations in 2014 - Avtovagzal and Memar Ajami-2, a source at Baku Metro said.

"Construction of these two new stations is being carried out rapidly and this process will be completed in 2014," the source said.

The source did not specify the time frame for completion of the work, but did not rule out the possibility of completing construction in the first half of 2014.

Both stations are part of the new line which is currently being created by Baku Metro. The process of laying a new line is being carried out through two tunnel construction complexes, Herrenknext and Robbins.

The metro has been operating since 1967 and has 23 stations.

A 20-year programme for the development of the metro was adopted earlier.

At present, the length of the Baku Metro lines is 34.6 kilometres and now has two lines. In future the number of subway lines is planned to be increased to five, the length up to 119 kilometres and the number of stations up to 76.
