Iranian official talks ties with Azerbaijan, Caspian pollution
The relations between Azerbaijan and Iran are good, and they are
extensive, the Iranian Foreign Ministry's spokesman has said at a
press conference in Tehran, Press TV reported.
"The common grounds of the two countries, the great commonalities
-- all this provides opportunities for further expansion of
relations," Ramin Mehmanparast said.
The spokesman said that the relations between neighboring countries
should not be damaged by various issues of minor importance.
Answering a question about BP's possibly polluting the Caspian Sea,
Mehmanparast said that this issue is under strict control of the
Caspian littoral states.
"There are conventions between the Caspian littoral states, and
these conventions include the issues of ecosystem and environment.
The pollution issue has been carefully observed, and specific
measures are being taken to stop the pollution of the Caspian Sea,"
Mehmanparast said.
The spokesman added that the oil companies follow strict rules
regarding their work in the Caspian Sea, and they will not be
allowed to spread pollution.
