Baku to host region's first int'l Green Week

The Green Week project will be implemented in Baku on November 12-16 for the first time in the Caucasus as part of the IDEA environmental protection campaign and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), a statement from the IDEA campaign said Friday.

Along with local guests, the event will be attended by specially invited representatives of international governmental and non-governmental organizations, youth leaders and other guests from around the world.

According to the statement, the first day of the Green Week will be organized by the International Youth Forum. The forum will discuss the results of the RIO +20 summit held in June 2012.

The global "green economy" and activities carried out in Azerbaijan and several European countries will be discussed during the second day of the event with the participation of more than 50 foreign nationals.

On November 14, environment diplomacy training will be organized at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy. More than 300 youth representatives will take part in the program, which will feature open lectures.

A roundtable discussion with the participation of representatives of government agencies and international organizations will be held on the fourth day of the Green Week.

The IDEA campaign, initiated on July 12, 2011 by the Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva, has already implemented a number of local and international projects.
