A US research group working to promote international science intends to open an office in Baku.
President and CEO of US Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF), Cathleen Campbell, said in a meeting with Minister of Economic Development Heydar Babayev on Thursday that the organization already operates three offices in various countries.
"We plan to open the next one in Baku," she said, explaining the decision by Azerbaijan's vast potential for the development of science.
Campbell said the new office would allow to expand CRDF's cooperation with various state bodies working in the field as well as the National Academy of Sciences.
Babayev said a great number of activities were under way to increase the country's scientific potential and accelerate the integration of national science into world science. He said the presidential decree on establishing a state commission issued in April to expedite reform in Azerbaijani science was another important step in advancing this goal. "This decree welcomed by the scientific community is of utmost importance for the implementation of the national strategy on the development of science."
