Top Azeri prosecutor pledges to further fight malfeasance
Tough struggle against any wrongdoing by employees of Azerbaijani prosecution bodies will be continued as intensely as before, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov has pledged.
In an article published in the newspaper Azerbaijan on Monday, Garalov says that 13 employees were dismissed from prosecution bodies in 2011 and so far this year.
Garalov wrote that an estimated 68 and 47 employees faced severe disciplinary action in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
"Four employees were dismissed from prosecution bodies in 2011, nine employees have been dismissed over the past period of this year and three of them brought to justice," the prosecutor general said. He also noted that a preventive measure in the form of arrest was applied for gross violations of official discipline, inappropriate actions of the investigator and prosecutor, and violations of the requirements of the code of ethics for employees of prosecution bodies.
