Issue of Moldova’s arms supplies to Armenia solved
Moldova has apologized to Azerbaijan and halted its arms supplies to Armenia, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Moldova Namig Aliyev participating in a meeting of the heads of Azerbaijani diplomatic missions told Trend news agency on Friday.
"This issue was discussed at a meeting of the Azerbaijani President with Moldovan Prime Minister, where the Moldovan side explained that it did not pursue any political goal," he said.
The ambassador added that the Moldovan side recognized the fault of its law enforcement bodies. Afterwards, the supplies were immediately halted.
"In general, relations between the two countries are at a good level," he said. "There are great prospects for their development and we intend to continue promoting them."
The Moldovan Defense Ministry stopped arms supplies to Armenia in November 2011.
Earlier, Prime Minister Vlad Filat apologized for Moldova's selling arms to Armenia at a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during the Warsaw Eastern Partnership Summit held in late September.
Azerbaijan and Armenia have been locked in conflict for over two decades. Since a lengthy war in the early 1990s, Armenian armed forces have occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's territory, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region, defying UN resolutions. OSCE-brokered peace talks have been largely fruitless so far.
