Presidents` talks on Karabakh `not planned yet`
The next meeting of the Azerbaijani and Armenian presidents to discuss the Nagorno Karabakh conflict has not yet been planned, a Russian mediator said in Baku on Tuesday.
The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group brokering peace talks are on a visit to the region. After holding talks with Azerbaijani leaders on Tuesday, the mediators -- Igor Popov of Russia, Robert Bradtke of the United States and Jacques Faure of France -- are due to head to Khankandi, the center of the self-proclaimed Nagorno Karabakh republic, to meet with its leaders. Further, the co-chairs will visit the Armenian capital Yerevan.
Igor Popov told journalists that following the co-chairs` visit to the region, they are expected to hold another meeting with the Azerbaijani and Armenian foreign ministers. The discussions, which will be held at the end of the summer, will first take place with each minister separately, to be followed by a joint meeting, Popov said.
``For this reason, we are not talking about a meeting of the presidents yet,`` he added.
The Russian co-chair also said that during the meetings with the Azerbaijani president and foreign minister in Baku, the Minsk Group co-chairs discussed the latest incidents on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, adding that he intended to mull the issue in Nagorno Karabakh and Yerevan as well.
US co-chair Robert Bradtke told the press that his meeting with President Aliyev was ``very constructive``.
Bradtke said further that the Minsk Group co-chairs are due to cross the Line of Contact from the Azerbaijani side on Wednesday and head to Nagorno Karabakh.
``It is very important to continue the practice of crossing the Line of Contact,`` he said. ``This highlights the importance of observance to the ceasefire regime.``
