Two detained near Iranian embassy over hooliganism
Two young members of the major Azerbaijani opposition party Musavat were detained near the Iranian embassy in Baku on Tuesday, Musavat said in a statement.
Interior Ministry spokesman Ehsan Zahidov confirmed this information, saying that Tural Hajibayli and Amid Suleymanov -- who are represented in the party’s youth organization -- were drunk and tried to break the embassy’s lighting system on the street. They were taken to a police precinct.
Zahidov said a lawsuit has been filed to a Baku district court on charges of petty hooliganism, adding that the youths would face administrative penalties.
Tural Hajibayli is a nephew of Arif Hajili, the jailed head of Musavat’s executive office.
