South Korea seeks closer ties with Azerbaijan, speaker says
South Korea intends to develop its relations with Azerbaijan in a number of areas, Korean parliament speaker Park Hee-tae said on a visit to Baku Thursday.
This is a Korean parliament speaker’s first official visit in the history of bilateral relations since Azerbaijan gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.
Also, the 20th anniversary of Korean-Azerbaijani diplomatic relations will be marked in 2012.
"Azerbaijan is rich in energy resources, and Korea has gained some economic success as well. Our current relations will be developing in this context," Hee-tae told reporters.
During his three-day visit, the National Assembly speaker is due to meet with senior Azerbaijani lawmakers. He is also due to be hosted by President Ilham Aliyev.
Hee-tae will also meet with Koreans living in Azerbaijan.
