World’s tallest building to be constructed in Baku

The world’s tallest building consisting of 185 stories will be constructed in Baku, according to the plans announced by a local investor, deputy head of the state body in charge of urban construction told Fineko/abc.az website.
Dovletkhan Dovletkhanov said that Haji Ibrahim plans to carry out the construction work in the Sahil (formerly Primorsk) settlement outside the Azerbaijani capital.
"According to incoming information, the investor already hired a private architect who has developed an initial sketch of the project, which envisions that the area encompassed [by the building], besides the coastline territory, will include the body of water [the Caspian Sea] where artificial islands are to be created," Dovletkhanov said.
According to him, Azerbaijan’s State Committee for Urban Construction and Architecture has not yet formally received a bid from a potential builder.
Dovletkhanov said construction of a 185-story building in the Sahil settlement is "technically possible". He added: "More accurate information will be provided [to the public] after comprehensive development of the project, which will be reviewed by specialists of both the State Committee and Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations department of expertise."
A source at the emergencies ministry has also said implementing such a project in Baku is technically possible but "the question is whether or not it is necessary at all".
If the project is realized, the Baku skyscraper will be taller than the world’s tallest building, Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai.
