Piracy on downward trend, still high in Azerbaijan
Piracy in intellectual property has been on downward trend in Azerbaijan, dropping from 61 percent to 40 percent in the publishing business, from 96 percent to 88 percent in computer software and from 96 percent to 70-80 percent in audiovisual products, according to the country’s agency for copyrights.
Khudayat Hasanli, head of the agency’s legal issues, said the piracy level will decrease further in the country after special labels are placed on intellectual property products. According to him, the measure will be enforced in accord with the law on protecting intellectual property rights and fighting piracy, which is currently "at the stage of being adopted".
Though the share of pirate products available in the domestic market has decreased, it remains high in Azerbaijan. Nine out of each 10 computer programs, two out of each five books, and eight out of each 10 audio or video CDs are pirate products.
