Aliyev examines Russian-made combat helicopters
President Ilham Aliyev on Thursday examined the Russian-made Mi-35M military helicopters recently delivered to Azerbaijan.
The helicopters were presented to President Aliyev by State Border Service chief Elchin Guliyev.
The president was informed that these are the most modern helicopters with vast potential to carry out combat missions.
Mi-35 is an upgraded version of a Mi-24 helicopter designed to destroy armored tanks. The combat machines are supplied with high-precision S-8 and S-13 remote controlled missile launchers, machine guns as well as "storm" and "attack" missiles. The helicopters are capable of tracking and hitting all targets in any weather conditions.
The number of helicopters delivered to Azerbaijan is not disclosed, but Russian sources said a total of 24 Mi-35M helicopters had been ordered from Russia.
Earlier reports said the helicopters were being supplied in accordance with the agreement signed in September 2010 between Azerbaijan and Russia’s state arms corporation Rosoboronexport. The agreement is estimated at $360 million, according to British military publication Jane’s Defence Weekly.
