Azeri civilian wounded by Armenian troops
An Azerbaijani civilian was wounded by Armenian armed forces in a ceasefire violation on Thursday afternoon near the contact line of the two countries’ troops, reports say.
The 56-year-old woman, Elmira Hasanova, received a leg injury after Armenian troops opened fire at civilians who came to pay tribute to their loved ones at a cemetery located in the neutral zone of an occupied village of Azerbaijan’s Aghdam region.
Hasanova was hospitalized and her life is not in danger, the reports said.
A fragile ceasefire has been in place between Azerbaijan and Armenia since a brutal war in the early 1990s that claimed some 30,000 lives and displaced about one million Azerbaijanis. OSCE-brokered peace talks have been largely fruitless so far and sporadic clashes on the frontline continue.
