Inmate commits suicide after attempt to escape from jail
An inmate committed suicide and another escaped from a Baku prison after attacking guards on Thursday evening, the city’s prosecutor’s office said.
It said that 23-year-old Farid Dadashov, and 28-year-old Faig Farajov, who were held in a solitary confinement cell, asked prison guards for help, saying that the sanitation line was allegedly malfunctioning. When the two supervisors were about to enter their cell, the inmates began to strike them with metal rods removed from their beds, inflicting injuries.
Farajov escaped from jail but was caught later in the day. Dadashov, who was also seized and placed in solitary confinement again, later hanged himself in his cell.
The Baku prosecutor’s office has filed new criminal charges on five counts. Farajov already faces a three-year jail sentence on charges of drug trafficking, while Dadashov was serving a four-year jail sentence on robbery charges.
