Election re-runs and additional polls for 464 seats in 330 municipalities were held in Azerbaijan on Wednesday. Voter turnout was around 23.4 percent, according to the country’s senior electoral body.

Preliminary tallies were to be announced in the early morning hours on Thursday.

1,549 candidates contested the vacant seats in the local bodies. Azerbaijan’s main opposition parties did not take part in the elections.
