President’s aide confident of Aliyev’s nomination for 2013 vote
A senior Azerbaijani official has said the ruling party and some other groups of voters will nominate incumbent President Ilham Aliyev at the 2013 presidential elections.
"In my opinion, having approved of these initiatives, he will agree to the nomination of his candidacy," Ali Hasanov, head of a Presidential Administration department and member of the Yeni (New) Azerbaijan Party (YAP) steering board, told local news agency APA.
Hasanov declined to predict outcomes of the election at this point.
"I don’t want to make any predictions about that now. But I think the Azerbaijani society will further need Ilham Aliyev and his leadership. The current situation in Azerbaijan -- political, economic and social -- is grounds to predict that his candidacy will be supported again," he said.
