EU, Azerbaijan launching talks on aviation agreement

The Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of transport Siim Kallas will pay a working visit to Azerbaijan on November 19-22. The aim of the visit is to strengthen cooperation between the European Union and Azerbaijan in the transport area with a particular focus on launching the negotiations on a Common Aviation Agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan for which the European Commission has recently received a mandate, the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan said.

"I believe that the Vice President Kallas' visit to Azerbaijan will mark a turning point in the process of launching negotiations on a Common Aviation Agreement with Azerbaijan which is to open up and integrate the aviation markets, create equal conditions of competition allowing new opportunities for consumers and operators, and most importantly lead to high standards in terms of air safety and security as well as air traffic management", Head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Roland Kobia said.

During his visit to Azerbaijan VP Kallas will meet with President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Minister of Transport Ziya Mammadov and Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev.
