Ukraine says ready to aid Azeri-Armenian peace talks
Ukraine is ready to assist talks on settling the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno Karabakh brokered by the OSCE Minsk Group, particularly during its 2013 chairmanship in the OSCE, the country’s Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn was quoted by the Russian news agency Interfax as saying.
"Ukraine supports Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a solution of the Nagorno Karabakh problem exclusively in peace, on the basis of the principles and norms of international law," Lytvyn said Wednesday during a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ogtay Asadov in St. Petersburg. The two speakers met on the sidelines of a meeting of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly’s council.
The Minsk Group, co-chaired by the United States, Russia and France, has been working to facilitate a settlement to the Karabakh conflict since Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a precarious cease-fire in 1994 following a lengthy war.
Lytvyn also said he would be pleased to visit the Azerbaijani capital Baku next year.
