Pakistan’s envoy offers condolences over Turkey quake

Pakistan’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan Inayat Ullah Kakar has expressed his deep condolences over the deadly earthquake that rocked Turkey on Sunday, according to the Pakistani embassy in Baku.

In his message to the Turkish embassy in Baku, he stated that the government of Pakistan "equally shares the feeling of grief and stands by their Turkish brethren in this tragic moment".

He reiterated that Pakistan and Turkey have always stood by each other in the hour of need, as was the case during the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan, when Turkey offered all-out support to Pakistan. Similar was the case during floods in Pakistan in 2010. The ambassador said he hoped that Turkey would successfully cope with the challenge soon and "rise to the occasion with courage and steadfastness".

370 people were killed and at least 1,300 wounded in the 7.2 magnitude quake in eastern Turkey. The death toll is expected to rise as rescue officials fear for the many who remain trapped under rubble.
