Top US official says discussed deepening ties with Aliyev
US Under Secretary of State William Burns said after holding talks in Baku on Tuesday that he had discussed with President Ilham Aliyev ways of deepening bilateral relations, stressing that security, energy, democratic and economic reform remain the United States’ priorities in Azerbaijan.
Burns told reporters that President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton attach great importance to US relations with the country.
"We are working together on such global challenges as fight against extremism and diversification of energy supplies," he said. "I once again thanked President Aliyev for Azerbaijan’s efforts on international security, including those in Afghanistan."
