Swedish parliament to discuss resolution on Karabakh

A proposal has been made to pass in the Swedish parliament a resolution urging a pullout of Armenian armed forces from the Azerbaijani territories occupied since a 1990s war and asserting the right of people displaced during the hostilities to return home.

The resolution was drafted by the Swedish-Azerbaijani Academic Society (SAAS) and lodged by Mehmet Kaplan, a member of the Green Party, according to the Society.

It notes that Armenia and the separatist regime run by ethnic Armenians in Azerbaijan’s Nagorno Karabakh region were to blame for the flare-up of the Karabakh war, which displaced about a million Azerbaijanis.

The document contains comprehensive information about the blatant violation of international law by the self-proclaimed Nagorno Karabakh republic. Such crimes, it said, included the forceful ouster of people from their native land, plundering and burning of their homes, kidnappings and hostage-taking, executions and abuse of POWs, and the use of air force against civilians. The Khojaly massacre committed by Armenians against Azerbaijanis in 1992 was cited as a graphic example.
